Age gap

It is a complex dynamic because when women "choose" a large age gap, that choice is often made within a system that offers them very few other ways to be safe or stable. If a society makes it hard for a woman to be financially independent or respected on her own, then "choosing" a powerful, older man isn't just about romance

it is a survival strategy. This reinforces the idea that a woman’s best "move" is to trade her youth for a man’s protection. Even if she goes into it willingly, the underlying message is that her freedom is a gift provided by a man’s status, rather than something she owns herself. It keeps the power in the hands of men because it teaches women that the easiest way to have a "good life" is to find a man who is "merciful" enough to share his power with them.
