My Teaching Philosophy

I believe that teaching is more than just delivering a lesson; it’s a calling. Growing up in a small village in Bangladesh, I saw firsthand how one dedicated teacher could change a child’s entire world. That experience taught me that education is a powerful tool for transformation, and it is the foundation of how I teach today.

In my ten years as an art educator, I have learned that art is a universal language. It connects people in ways that words often cannot. During my time working with students with special needs, I realized that my most important job is to make art accessible. I don't just teach techniques; I adapt my approach so that every student—regardless of their background, ability, or challenges—has the opportunity to feel confident and heard.

My journey from Bangladesh to Beijing, and eventually to New York, has shaped my perspective on what an art classroom should be. My background in fashion design and my time living in different cultures taught me that everyone sees the world through a different lens. In a diverse city like New York, I believe it is my responsibility to create a space that reflects that diversity. I want my classroom to be a place where cross-cultural communication isn't just encouraged; it’s part of the fabric of our work.

Ultimately, my goal as an educator is to help students find their voice. Art shouldn’t just be about making something "pretty"—it should be about problem-solving, building resilience, and understanding our own power. When a student walks out of my room, I want them to feel more confident in who they are and more curious about the world around them.
